Ylläksen Matkailuyhdistys ry
This year snow fell later than usual at Ylläs and there is less of it. As a result, the trail network opening was delayed, and stones are still exposed on certain trails.
Even though there were -30° frosts in late January and early February, hikers still managed to get their boots wet. Ylläs Travel Info reminds you that it is very dangerous to go out on to the ice at lake Kesänkijärvi, for example. The frozen ice surface is full of hidden holes, so do stay on the official trails.
If you want to ski on the lake we recommend that you only use the unofficial ski trail maintained by the Ski cafe owner. Walking and skiing on the lake is always at your own risk.
Get up-to-date info on the trail networks from the Ylläs trail service site (www.infogis.fi/yllas) and the following social media pages:
- Ylläksen pyöräreitit / Ylläs Bike trails
- Ylläksen moottorikelkkareitit / Ylläs snowmobile trails
- Ylläksen ladut / Ylläs ski trails

Don’t forget that Ylläs also has a impressive 100 km long network of winter trails for hikers and cyclists. Don’t go on the ski trails without skis! Remember to be considerate to others when you are out on the trails.
Learn the trails signs and passing instructions shown in the picture. Cyclists always give way to hikers, and both cyclists and hikers give way to skiers.
Enjoy your winter excursions!
